This combination is for Folks who want to set up an EASY FISHING – CATFISH POND with no management and no tracking the harvesting to maintain the right balance of Bream to Bass, and so on.  The numbers are modest, so your pond won’t be overloaded if it’s shallow.

If you just want an easy fishing pond for the family or for your vacation pond, or for a pond where you are not at it much, this might be an answer.

Your pond or lake should be established with insects, frogs and some greenery or grass. It can’t be a skinned-out dirt-only pond with solidly muddy water.  Fish can’t find food that way.  If you have a pond that is slightly muddy, stock heavily with Fathead Minnows to support your Catfish and Specklebelly until your pond is fully established.  

When you are first setting up this kind of pond it’s hard to have to many Minnows. You can put 1000 to 3000 in if you like, but at least 500 to 1000 to start.  You can throw feed or have an Automatic Fish Feeder to increase the growth rate.  Use High Protein Floating FINGERLING sized Feed.  Baby fish need BB sized feed.  Adult fish can eat small feed, but babies can’t eat adult feed.

Fish should clean up the feed within 15 minutes, whether thrown or spread through a Feeder.  The 15 minute time limit for the fish to clean up the floating feed lets you know how much to feed as time goes by and their size increases.  Over time it will take more feed to let them eat for 10 to 15 minutes.
